Mililani Principal Selected as Hawaii Middle School Principal of the Year
May 5, 2014
Ms. Elynne Chung, principal of Mililani Middle School, was selected as the Hawaii Midddle School Principal of the Year.
The Hawaii Association of Secondary School Administrators established the Principal of the Year award to acknowledge outstanding school leaders who have made exemplary contributions to their profession, have provided high-quality learning opportunities for their students, and have demonstrated overall excellence in areas such as leadership, curriculum instructions, assessment and personalization.
Ms. Chung has had a distinguished career in education, serving as an elementary school teacher, an educational specialist for the Hawaii Department of Education, and a vice principal at both the elementary and high school levels. Currently in her fourth year as principal at Mililani Middle School, the largest middle school in the state, Ms. Chung has faced unique challenges as principal, as the school is one of the four year-round multi-track schools in the state, and has handled a continual rotation of students, staff, and resources on a yearly basis. Furthermore, during her tenure, Mililani Middle School received a 6-year accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in 2011.
As the state's Middle School Principal of the Year, Ms. Chung will represent Hawaii’s middle school principals at the National Association of Secondary School Principals Institute in Washington, D.C. this September.
